Abstract

All organisms require constancy of the internal environment for their physiological activities, and such concept was initially emphasized by the French physiologist Claude Bernard who introduced the term "milieu interieu" a century ago. Among many organs of a body, the kidney plays the most important roles in maintaining the constancy of the internal environment; by forming the urine, the nephrons of kidney eliminate metabolic wastes and regulate the water content, and they also participate in maintenance of ionic balance as well as acid-base equilibrium; some endocrine function of kidney is also described.
In this paper some basic concepts, in the renal physiology, on va-ious aspects are briefly outlined.
